Get Your Vehicle Ready Before You Come In
A few simple checks before your WOF can save time and help avoid unnecessary failures. Here’s what to look at before your appointment:
✔ ✅Lights Check all lights are working, headlights, indicators, brake lights, and reverse lights. Replace any blown bulbs before your inspection.
Tyres Check tyre pressure and look for any visible damage or uneven wear. Tyres must have a minimum tread depth of 1.5mm across the full width.
Windscreen Washers & Wipers Make sure your washer bottle has fluid and your wipers clean the windscreen clearly without smearing.
Seatbelts Click each seatbelt in and check it locks and releases correctly. Check for any visible fraying or damage to the webbing.
Brakes Check your brake pedal feels firm and your vehicle stops in a straight line. Any pulling, grinding, or sponginess should be checked before your WOF.
Windscreen Check for any chips or cracks in your line of vision. Small chips can often be repaired rather than requiring a full windscreen replacement.

A standard WOF inspection typically takes 30 to 45 minutes. If repairs are needed, additional time will be required depending on the work involved.
If your vehicle fails, we'll explain exactly what needs to be repaired. In many cases we can carry out the repairs the same day and arrange a recheck immediately after.
We recommend booking in advance to secure your preferred time. You can book online or give us a call to arrange an appointment.
Most privately owned vehicles require a WOF, including cars, utes, trailers, motorbikes, caravans, and small trucks. Commercial vehicles used for passenger transport require a Certificate of Fitness (CoF) instead.
You can drive your vehicle home or directly to a repair workshop after a failure, but it should not be used for general driving until the required repairs are completed and a new WOF is issued.

I'd had a WOF failure elsewhere and wasn't given much explanation of what needed fixing. I took it to Hamilton Auto Centre and they went through everything carefully, identified a worn front ball joint as the failure item, and explained it clearly before doing anything. They repaired it the same day and the recheck was done straight after. Really thorough and straightforward.
I came in for a routine WOF and the team picked up a small exhaust leak that hadn't been flagged at my last inspection elsewhere. They showed me exactly where it was, explained why it was a failure item, and fixed it while I waited. Everything was done in under two hours start to finish. Really impressed with how thorough they were, will be coming back.
